Pirates Cove Renovations
Project Description
The City of Englewood is collaborating with BHA Design to plan future renovations at the Pirates Cove Water Park. The east end of the water park (competitive pool location) is set to undergo significant improvements aimed at enhancing the overall guest experience and promoting sustainability. These updates will feature exciting new slides for thrilling adventures, a relaxing lounge pool for those looking to unwind, and infrastructure enhancements to improve water efficiency. New pavilions will offer shade and comfort, making it an ideal gathering spot for families and friends.
Estimated Cost of Improvements: $6,300,000

Background Information
In March 2017, Englewood City Council adopted the Parks and Recreation Master Plan to serve as a road map for future park development/redevelopment and provide a balance of facilities, amenities and recreation programs for the next 10 years.
In July 2023, the Department of Parks, Recreation, Library and Golf updated the 2017 Master Plan Recommendations Sections (Chapter 3) to outline key improvements to Englewood's parks, opens spaces and facilities to meet the current needs and issues of the community.

Renovations at Pirates Cove remain on schedule, with demolition complete and excavation underway to prepare for the next phases of construction.
Concrete and asphalt demolition is complete, and the removed materials have been hauled away from the site. Crews have also begun excavating the pool area, removing dirt and rock to make room for underground utilities, including sewer, gas, electrical and technology infrastructure.
Excavation is also underway in the water detention pond area to prepare for drainage improvements across the site.

Demolition is officially underway at Pirates Cove as part of the Renew & Recreate renovation project.
Heavy equipment is on-site as crews remove the concrete deck and demolish the former competition pool to make way for the new features planned for the facility.
The pool demolition phase is nearly complete, marking another step forward in the transformation of Pirates Cove.

Over the next three years and beyond, $41.5 million will be invested in parks and recreation through the bond projects approved by Englewood voters. General Obligation Bonds require 85% of the work to be completed within three years, so the majority of projects are expected to be finished by 2028.
Thanks to your support, the city is investing in vibrant parks and recreation for everyone, now and into the future, through the Renew & Recreate campaign. Funded by the Parks and Recreation Bond, this initiative includes major upgrades to parks, playgrounds, recreation facilities and trails.
