Project Background
Public Works is set to perform a full-depth reconstruction of W. Union Ave. from Santa Fe Blvd. east to the bridge over the South Platte River. Due to the high volume of heavy vehicles on this street, a complete reconstruction is necessary to accommodate the traffic and address the underlying subgrade issues. All work will occur within the existing edges of the road, and gutter and sidewalk improvements are not part of this project.
Project Location: W. Union Ave. from Santa Fe to South Platte River.
Project Goals
The current road conditions pose a hazard to drivers and generate significant noise from heavy vehicles. One goal of this project is to rebuild the road to better accommodate heavy vehicle traffic, using a combination of Stone Matrix Asphalt (SMA) and concrete materials that will help reduce noise and improve road conditions. Another goal is to strengthen the subbase, ensuring the street has a longer lifespan than the current conditions allow.
Project Timeline
Design phase is completed and construction is anticipated to begin in Sumer 2025.
