South Broadway Revitalization Project
About the Project
The City of Englewood launched the South Broadway Revitalization Project, which will incorporate community input on shaping the future of the corridor.
South Broadway is already home to a range of valuable assets, including beloved community spaces like Duncan Park, established local businesses and a budding arts district. The area is also benefiting from ongoing infrastructure improvements through the city’s Complete Streets initiative.
This project will build upon the strengths of the area while addressing opportunities for improvement identified by community members, city council members and city staff. The city has seen a growing interest from residents in expanding amenities, public spaces and opportunities for connection in this corridor.
Nine strategies will be utilized to make this area of South Broadway a safe, inviting and engaging place for people to live, work and play while respecting the unique history and culture of the corridor.
Project Area
The revitalization project will focus on South Broadway in Englewood, spanning from the intersection with Jefferson (just south of the US-285 interchange) to Belleview Avenue at the Littleton border.
Strategy Areas
To engage members of the community in an organized fashion, staff will coordinate the creation of strategy groups around eight key strategies. These groups will include both members of the community and staff and build on previous community engagement while further engaging the community in shaping the future of this corridor.
- Branding: Engage stakeholders to develop a name for the area that respects its unique culture and history.
- Safety: Engage the community in a proactive approach to safety through Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) and enforcement.
- Economic Development & Redevelopment: : Employ strategies to diversify and strengthen the local economy, utilizing strategies identified in the City’s Economic Development Strategic Plan. Employ long-range strategies to ensure sustained redevelopment of the corridor.
- Signature Event: Develop and implement a signature event that recognizes the uniqueness of the neighborhood and brings people to the region.
- Wayfinding: Implement wayfinding strategies and elements to connect the community with existing and planned amenities.
- New City Amenities: Consider adding new City amenities, such as a pop up library and parklets, to activate and energize the corridor.
- Complete Streets: Enhance safety, accessibility, and attractiveness for pedestrians and transit users.
- Public Art: Build on the City’s successful history of adding unique, cost-effective public art installations that reflect the unique history and culture of the region.
