Title 16 Amendments
The City of Englewood’s Unified Development Code (UDC), also known as Title 16, outlines the standards for all new development and infill or redevelopment projects in the community. As one of the city’s primary tools for implementing the 2017 comprehensive plan, Englewood Forward, the UDC plays a key role in shaping the city’s future. Learn more about the Englewood Forward Comprehensive Plan here.
In 2023, the UDC underwent a major rewrite through a process known as CodeNext. However, the code continues to be updated periodically. These amendments may include:
- “Housekeeping” updates to correct technical errors
- Revisions to clarify confusing sections of the code
- Updates that improve service to the Englewood community
- Changes required to comply with new state or federal laws
In alignment with the principles outlined in the 2020 Unified Development Code Assessment, all updates to the UDC aim to:
- Provide a comprehensive framework for development
- Be user-friendly and easy to navigate
- Garner community support
- Make the right things easy in Englewood
- Reflect industry best practices
- Be “right-sized” for the Englewood community
- Balance flexibility and certainty
- Provide a clear and fluid administrative process
- Minimize nonconformities
- Include effective enforcement tools
