Project Description

The City of Englewood is working with Goodbee and Associates and Elite Industries to enhance Emerson Park, including new play features, the addition of a picnic shelter, and upgrades to the landscape and pathways. These enhancements aim to create a more inviting and functional outdoor space for community members to enjoy. The southeast section will be temporarily closed during irrigation replacement and sidewalk widening.

As part of the city’s Renew & Recreate renovations, Emerson Park is complete! The park’s updated design reflects neighborhood feedback, ensuring the improvements reflect what community members wanted to see in their park. A ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the completed renovations took place on October 17, 2026.

Background Information

In March 2017, Englewood City Council adopted the Parks and Recreation Master Plan to serve as a road map for future park development/redevelopment and provide a balance of facilities, amenities and recreation programs for the next 10 years.

In July 2023, the Department of Parks, Recreation, Library and Golf updated the 2017 Master Plan Recommendations Sections (Chapter 3) to outline key improvements to Englewood's parks, open spaces and facilities to meet the current needs and issues of the community.

    Emerson Park improvements are nearly complete!

    Most of the improvements at Emerson Park are now in place, including new play features, trees, a widened sidewalk, landscaping and irrigation upgrades. The pergola is the final piece of the project and is planned for installation in the coming weeks.

    Installation is expected to take approximately two to three weeks. During construction, only the pergola installation area will be closed. The grass and playground will remain open for community members to enjoy.

    Stay tuned for details on an upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the finished project!

    Emerson Park’s construction contract is set for city council approval on Monday, September 15, along with two other bond project contracts.

    The same contractor is also working on Cushing Park. Due to this conflict, construction at Emerson Park will now start in early winter 2026 with an anticipated completion by summer 2026.
