South Broadway Public Realm Action Plan
Study Area
3.5 blocks of South Broadway, from Little Dry Creek to Eastman Avenue
Project Goals
Safer and Easier to Get Around
Improve the sidewalks and public areas around South Broadway, making them more attractive, safe, and accessible for everyone.
Distinctly Englewood
Honor our community’s traditional main street while highlighting its independent, creative vibe and diverse mix of local businesses.
Lively and Welcoming to All
Create a vibrant main street that invites people to explore, relax, and socialize. Boost local businesses by drawing in more customers, visitors, and investment.
Project Description
Sporting a colorful jumble of quirky shops, notable nightlife and one-off eateries, Downtown’s South Broadway serves as a place to mingle and linger as well as shop. A long history of self-made entrepreneurship has attracted businesses who think outside the box and visitors who seek authentic experiences in an unpretentious setting.
The South Broadway Public Realm Action Plan builds on our main street’s come-as-you-are character and welcoming nature. You’ll see improvements to sidewalks, crosswalks, and lighting that make the area more inviting, safe and accessible to all. You can look forward to creative elements that are both practical and attractive, like specialty lighting, seating, bike racks, native plantings, gateways and a new festival street.

A conceptual plan was completed in 2024, and new design guidelines were adopted by the City of Englewood in 2025 to inform renovation of older buildings and context-sensitive new development. Now detailed planning is underway, with the goal to undertake improvements in 2027.
