March 2026 Old Hampden Utilities Update

Work on waterlines along Old Hampden Avenue east of Broadway is complete. The roadway has been patched, paved and reopened to traffic.

Next, Xcel Energy will begin moving overhead electrical lines underground between Clarkson and Lafayette avenues. This work will make the corridor look better and improve reliability.

The utilities department is in the process of signing an additional contract to install stormwater improvements on Old Hampden from Lincoln Street to Grant Street. This work will require a full road closure between those streets and is expected to start in late April or early May.

Later this spring or early summer, construction will begin on the Complete Streets portion of the project. This work will transform Old Hampden from a car-focused road with safety and access challenges into a safer, more welcoming space for everyone. Planned improvements include ADA upgrades, wider sidewalks, upgraded bus stops, traffic-calming features and safer crossings for drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians.
