Will the rec center be closed during construction?
Most of the Recreation Center will maintain normal hours of operation during construction. The pool, locker rooms, two of the racquetball courts, and a portion of the track will be closed. Patrons will be notified of any additional temporary closures. The facility will be closed for annual maintenance from August 31-September 7 for deep cleaning and preventative maintenance on the center.
What is happening during construction?
The renovation includes updated men’s, women’s and universal/family locker rooms, a new lift to bring patrons to the second level, updated pool gutter tile and surface deck, a new kids slide, new hot tub, cold plunge, and sauna. The facility will also get new hallway flooring and updated restrooms.
Are you getting rid of the Family Locker Rooms?
The Family Locker Room, now renamed the Universal Locker Room, is being relocated next to the other locker rooms to make it more convenient for all users. The space will continue to serve families with children, individuals who need assistance from a caregiver, and anyone who prefers additional privacy. The term “Universal” simply means the locker room is available to anyone who needs it.
Are you making the pool deeper?
No. The pool depth will not change as part of this project. The pool will receive new gutter tile and other improvements to the surrounding area.
What areas of the Recreation Center can I use during construction?
The weight room, cardio area, racquetball courts 1 and 2, gymnasium, classrooms and Zone Room will remain available. A portion of the indoor track will also remain open with a modified route.
Why is this project closing the pool for so long?
During the design phase, the project team hoped to keep the pool open during construction. Once a general contractor was selected and construction plans were finalized, it became clear that keeping the pool open would create safety concerns for patrons.
Closing the pool for the duration of construction also reduces the overall project schedule by several months. In addition, Arapahoe County health regulations require shower facilities for pool operations. Because the locker rooms and shower facilities are being renovated, the pool cannot operate during construction.
Can I still use the indoor track?
Yes. A portion of the indoor track will remain open with a modified route. The route will be adjusted while construction takes place on the west side of the building for the new hot tub and cold plunge.
Where can I change into my workout clothes?
Racquetball courts 3 and 4 will serve as temporary men's and women's changing areas during construction. Restrooms are also available near the front desk.
How long will construction take?
The project is expected to be complete in summer 2027.
Will I be charged for my membership if I only use the pool?
If you primarily use the pool, you have the option to cancel or pause your membership during construction.
If you wish to cancel your pass, please submit this Cancellation Request Form.
If you wish to pause your pass, please submit this Pass Pause Request Form.
Memberships will be paused effective August 30, 2026.
