Plan Summary

The City of Englewood provides potable water service to a service area comprising approximately 35,000 residents and numerous businesses. Englewood is an established water provider with a history of reliable water service dating back to the 1950’s, and Englewood is committed to continuing to efficiently and reliably serve water to its customers. This Water Efficiency Plan (Plan) was developed by Englewood as an update to its 2013 Water Conservation Plan. The current Plan identifies Englewood’s updated water efficiency goals based on Englewood’s recent water use and designs a set of water efficiency programs compatible with those goals.

Between 2017 and 2021, Englewood produced an average of 6,073 acre-feet (AF) of potable water, and its service area per capita water demand averaged 163 gallons per capita per day (gpcd). In the 2023 to 2029 implementation period of this Plan, Englewood is targeting a 6% reduction in its service area per capita water demand, lowering this demand to 153 gpcd by 2029.

These categories and the related efficiency programs are described further in Section 4 and Table 5 of the report below.

The Water Efficiency Plan will be a guide for Englewood Utilities programs and projects over the next seven years. Englewood Utilities is seeking feedback from the public on the Plan to ensure it reflects the values of the community.

The city accepted public comments on this plan from August 18 - October 18, 2022. The plan was approved by the State of Colorado in August 2023.

Public Comments

Englewood Utilities wants to extend a “Thank You!” to all who provided comments and feedback on the draft Water Efficiency Plan (WEP). We received valuable comments and incorporated several revisions to the final WEP as a result, including:

    • Low water landscaping educational opportunities
    • Additional Water Efficiency content on the Utilities website
    • Evaluation of landscaping and/or appliance and plumbing retrofit incentives
    • Clarification on the importance of monthly billing from a water efficiency standpoint
    • Assessment of the water rate structure to promote water efficiency
    • Corrected water savings percentages for Depot Park
    • Revised tables and figures to provide more clarity on the data presented
    • Additional explanation on water efficient fixtures in new construction

The final WEP was adopted by the Englewood City Council on February 6, 2023 and will be posted to the Englewood Utilities website following final approval by the Colorado Water Conservation Board. We appreciate the citizen involvement that helped us reach this goal!

Although not related to the WEP, Englewood Utilities also acknowledges comments received related to water aesthetics. We are continuing to invest in the water system to improve the water taste and odor through several projects and operational improvements.
