PROJECT COMPLETED
Project: 2023 Mill and Overlay
Contractor: Elite Surface Infrastructure
Completion Date: January 2024
Contract Cost: $5,238,603.02
Final Cost: $4,865,776.69
Description:
In July 2023, the City of Englewood initiated the 2023 Mill and Overlay Project. The primary objective was to enhance safety, prolong the lifespan of the road, and ensure smooth transit for all road users. To achieve this, the project involved milling the existing surface and applying a new 2" overlay, improving road markings, and addressing any necessary repairs.
The 2023 Mill and Overlay Project stood as the largest street resurfacing project of its kind in Englewood's history. The routine project targeted Pavement Zone 5 for the year. However, the City also undertook the significant task of resurfacing most of S Broadway's drivelines and W Floyd Avenue, in addition to several other streets outside of Zone 5 that required more immediate repair.
Distinctive to this year's Mill and Overlay project, the City opted to recycle the asphalt chips from the milled streets and placed them in the alleys. The 53 Alleys that received asphalt millings were selected based on a combination of visual inspection and a condition rating index. Asphalt millings were implemented to reduce City capital and maintenance expenditures while providing residents with a more durable connection to their garages. The project has now been successfully completed.
