Project Description

The city is planning a new pedestrian crossing at Fox St. and Oxford Ave. A traffic study and community outreach identified the need for the signal and our team worked with a consultant to draw up engineering plans. Curb extensions will shorten the crossing distance, and the push button activated HAWK signal will make crossing Oxford much easier for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project has just completed the design phase (July 2026) and will next move into construction (fall 2027).

    The final plans for the new push-button crossing signal at Oxford and Fox are complete. We will now put the construction project out to bid and expect to break ground this fall. Stay tuned for updates on the project timeline and temporary traffic changes during construction.

    We’re making the intersection of Oxford Ave. and Fox St. safer for everyone. The project introduces two HAWK signals and reimagined ADA ramps that guide pedestrians into a consolidated crossing. What is a HAWK signal? A HAWK (High-Intensity Activated Crosswalk) signal is a pedestrian-activated beacon used at crosswalks on busy roads to safely stop traffic.

    On the east side of the intersection, new concrete curb extensions (bump-outs) will narrow the roadway and provide a natural traffic-calming effect while reducing pedestrian crossing distances by approximately 25%. Combined with new high-visibility markings, these upgrades address critical safety needs for this designated Safe Routes to School corridor and neighborhood bike route.

    What’s Next? Design is nearly complete (90%). We expect to start the construction bidding process this summer and start construction in Fall 2026.
