Traffic Signal Equipment Replacement
This project has been completed. All lights are in use and the contractor was able to install luminaire's at each traffic signal for added safety to each intersection, while still coming in under budget.
Overview
The City of Englewood's annual traffic infrastructure inspections in 2021 revealed that seven existing traffic signal poles needed replacement due to cracking, impact damage, loose bolts, and/or corrosion. These compromised poles, which are going to be replaced as part of this project, can be located at the following intersections:
- Northwest corner of W. Dartmouth Ave. & S. Bannock St.
- Northeast corner of W. Dartmouth Ave. & S. Bannock St.
- Southeast corner of W. Floyd Ave. & S. Cherokee St.
- Southwest corner of E. Floyd Ave. & S. Sherman St.
- Southeast corner of E. Floyd Ave. & S. Sherman St.
- Northwest corner of E. Quincy Ave. & S. Logan St.
- Southwest corner of E. Quincy Ave. & S. Logan St.
This project invests in protecting transportation infrastructure throughout the City and aids in reaching the City’s goal of zero transportation-related facilities and serious injuries.
Schedule
The project must be completed no later than 4 months after the procurement of signal poles. The project was awarded on August 2nd and replacement poles were ordered on August 23rd. The lead time on poles is approximately 6 months; as such, construction is expected to begin in February/March of 2024 and completed by June/July of 2024.
Scope
This project will include utility potholing for the above traffic signal light pole locations (spread across 4 intersections), removal of the existing traffic signal light poles, and drilling of new caissons for pole replacements adjacent to the removed traffic signals. The new traffic signals will then be rewired utilizing the existing stop light casings and push buttons, but the pull box and underground wiring will be upgraded to a more modern wiring configuration that will make future maintenance of these traffic signals much easier.
Funding
Replacement of these seven signals will cost $571,360 and will be paid for out of the City’s Transportation System Upgrade and Signal Equipment Upgrade/Replacement Funds.
